Activation Zones
A framework for shaping energy within a space.
Every environment carries a level of energy. Some spaces help us slow down and settle, while others invite conversation, reflection or movement. Zoning is BAESHA’s approach to understanding how different areas within a space support different levels of activity and engagement. Rather than designing a single atmosphere, we consider how environments move between calm, connection and momentum. Through sensory anchors colour, pattern, texture & form and fragrance design elements subtly influence both the energy of a space and the state of being it encourages.
Low Activation supports rest and grounding, creating spaces that feel calm, settled and restorative through softer colours, quieter patterns, natural materials and calming fragrance.
Medium Activation supports connection and presence, encouraging conversation and shared engagement through balanced contrasts, tactile materials and welcoming scent.
High Activation supports movement and curiosity, stimulating exploration and participation through brighter contrasts, expressive pattern and energising fragrance.
Most environments benefit from a balance of activation zones. Spaces that only energise can feel overwhelming, while spaces that only calm can feel static. By recognising how atmosphere shifts within a space, design can support different human needs from rest and reflection to connection and discovery.
